WS Day 6 Mon, 4th rd:

Serena bt Kuznetsova: 6-2, 6-3

It seems there’s nothing that’ll stop Serena Williams, from winning an unprecedented 8th Miami Masters Title.

The two-times defending champion was in irresistible form against old foe- Svetlana Kuznsteova. Kuznetsova owns 2 out of 9 career wins over Serena, so was always going to be a dangerous opponent for Williams.

But Kuzi is a former shadow of the woman who beat Serena the French Open in 2009, on her way to winning her 2nd Grand Slam Crown.

Serena’s sheer raw power and heavy, weight of shot, was too much for the former World No2 in the opening set. ‘Re, Re’ easing her way to it by 6-2, before carrying on her dominance in the 2nd. Sveta was really scrambling for points and was run ragged around the court by Serena. Serena eventually put the Russian out of her misery and soon completed the win by 6-3, to set up a QF clash with her 2013 Wimbledon conqueror: Sabine Lisicki.

Venus bt Wozniacki: 6-3, 7-6 (7-1)

In tennis some players just don’t match up well with certain opponents. That’s definitely the case with Caroline Wozniacki, every time she play’s Venus Williams.

In 6 previous matches, she’s lost all 6 and won only 1 set- in the Final of Auckland this year. Venus’ raw power and flat, hitting always proving too much for the counter[-punching Dane.

In the first then then, the match went according to type, with Venus dictating play. Back to back breaks between the two, was the early going on, but from 3-3, Venus went away to take it by 6-3.

However in he 2nd set, Wozniacki took more risks and Venus’ form dropped slightly to allow Caro back in. Wozniacki dually obliged and broke to take a 5-3 lead. But Venus struck back and immediately clawed her way back to 5-5. Both Divas then exchanged breaks, before settling it in a tie-break.

Venus though regrouped just in time, to go and cruise through the breaker and seal victory easily by 7-1.
