Murray Mauls local Wildcard

ChrysanthemumAndy Murray returned to competitive tennis today, to win his first match since beating Croatia’s Ivan Dodig in September’s Davis Cup play-off tie. The World number 4 and reigning Wimbledon and Olympic singles champion, completely obliterated local wildcard Mousa Shanan Zayedard, in the 1st round of the Qatar ExxonMobil open in Doha, Qatar.

The British number 1 took just 37 minutes to totally destroy Zayedard 6-0, 6-0, in what was surely an humiliating encounter for the 19 year old. Zayedard in the end could only muster 17 points in the entire match, but afterwards was happy to have had the experience of facing such a top player in Murray.

It was Murray’s quickest match since Queen’s 2005, where he destroyed Santiago Ventura of Spain in just 44 minutes. It was also his 3rd career double bagel. Andy will next play German Florian Mayer. The 30 year old came through against Poland’s Michał Przysiężny, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), to advance to the 2nd round. Murray leads Mayer 3-0 in their career head 2 head.
