ATP World Tour Finals, London: Day 4 Wed, Group A

Djokovic bt Wawrinka: 6-3, 6-0

In his first match with Marin Cilic, Novak Djokovic barely broke sweat, dropping only 2 games in a 56 minute contest.

It was more of the same onslaught and barrage then, against another of 2014s Grand Slam Champions: Stan Wawrinka.

At the start of the match, it looked like Wawrinka was onto something. The Aussie Open winner, broke Djokovic early on for a 2-0 lead. That brief momentum turned out to be exactly that: brief. Djokovic after getting his serve broken, then went on a lightning charge, winning 20 out of the next 23 games to claim the opener, by 6-3.

In the 2nd set, things got even worse for the Swiss 29 year old, as Djokovic’ class went through the roof. The Serbian Ironman showing the O2 crowd in London why he is the No.1, with a bagel set, to finish of proceedings.

Novak who extends his indoor record to 29 consecutive wins, is now in pole position to qualify for the SFs, with 2 straight sets wins. He faces Tomas Berdych in his final RR match on Friday. If Djokovic wins that match, he’ll finish the year as World No.1 for the 3rd time.

Berdych bt Cilic: 6-3, 6-1

Tomas Berdych needed a huge boost in his match with Marin Cilic. In his first encounter with Wawrinka, he got hammered 6-1, 6-1, in what was his 4th opening round loss at the World Tour Finals.

It was also the same case for Cilic, who has been injured and fatigued coming into the Finals. So who would get their campaign back on track and who would be staring at the exit door from the tournament.

It turned out that it was a lucky day for Tomas Berdych. The 6ft 5 Czech dominated his Croatian rival, breaking first enroute to a 4-3 lead.

Cilic then had 2 BP to get back at 4-4, but Tomas snuffed them out and soon wrapped up the first set by 6-3.

Berdych after sealing the opener, never looked back after that, routing the debutant 6-1.

Berdych now will have to beat defending champion Novak Djokovic in his last RR match and hope Cilic beats Wawrinka, to have any hope of reaching the Semi’s
