Monte Carlo: Unstoppable Djokovic edges Berdych to make History

Tulips3 Masters Series Events down, 3 MS events won. Yes that’s right Novak Djokovic made history on Sunday, winning his 2nd Monte Carlo title and thus becoming the first ever player to win the seasons first 3 Masters tournaments. Tomas Berdych was appearing in his 4th Masters Final and threatened the World No1 throughout the match, but ultimately Djokovic’s mental prowess saw him over the line in the 3rd set. His 3rd Masters crown of 2015, sees him draw level with Roger Federer on 23 on the all-time list, with Rafael Nadal only ahead on 27.

Monte Carlo Masters: Day 7 Sun, The Final

Djokovic bt Berdych: 7–5, 4–6, 6–3

Can anyone stop the Serbian Ironman at the moment. A day after defeating his arch-rival and King of Clay Rafael Nadal in the SFs, the undisputed World No1 continued to dominate the Masters Events.

Chalking up his 3rd consecutive victory in the 1000 tournaments, Novak continues to make history and reasserts his outright dominance at the top of the men’s game. He has now won his last 11 Masters Series Finals and is currently riding high on a 17 match winning streak.

Unlike Nadal in the last 4, Tomas Berdych actually putting up a great fight against the Serb, taking him to 3 sets.

Despite owning a terrible 2-18 career h2h record against Djokovic, it was Berdych who made a lighting quick start. The powerful Czech won 8 of the first 10 points, breaking straight away. However Djokovic struck back, breaking Berdych in the 6th game. He secured a 2nd break and extended his lead to 5-3.

The 8 times GS Winner seemed to be on course to claim the opener, but failed to serve it out. Berdych pounced and won 2 straight game to level at 5-5. Djokovic then regrouped and eventually took the first set, when Berdych dropped serve down 6-5.

After a brief 1 hour rain delay in the 2nd set, Tomas was the first one to strike, breaking on the resumption and taking the 2nd 6-4.

Come the 3rd set though, Djokovic like on so many occasions in the past 4 seasons, recharged his batteries and forgot about before. He quickly stormed out to a 4-0 lead and Berdych never recovered after that, eventually going down 6-3.

With his 53rd career title, Djokovic extends his points gap over Roger Federer to a record-breaking 5000+ points.
