Wuhan: Venus storms past Goerges to reach 3rd rd

Venus Williams recorded a landmark win in her legendary career, winning her 700th match. The 35 year old was far too good and had all the answers in a straight sets victory over German Julia Goerges. Venus becomes just the 9th player in WTA Tour history and 2nd active player after lil sis Serena, to reach the historic milestone.

Venus bt Goerges: 6-4, 6-3

A barn-storming performance from veteran Venus Williams, saw the American win her 700th career match.

Venus who is having her best season since 2010 was too clean and solid against Germany’s Julia Goerges.

Despite dropping her serve in the very first game, Venus broke back twice, en-route to taking the opener by 6-4.

The 2nd set was a tad easier for the 5-times Wimbledon champ, as she broke from 4-3 up to close out the victory 6-3.
