Inaugural tournament replacing Tournament of Champions, consisting of the top 11 players ( plus 1 wildcard) who didn’t qualify for the WTA Finals, ranked between 9-19 (10-26, this year due to Serena Williams withdrawing from the WTA Finals and Safraova grabbing the 9th spot and 6 players deciding not to accept the invitation of playing in Zhuhai. The 12 players are split into 4 groups of 3, with the winners of each group advancing to the SFs. An uneaten player can win a maximum of 700 ranking points and $635,000 in prize money.
